12 Best Apps for Learning Brazilian Portuguese

Looking for the best apps for learning Brazilian Portuguese? Look no further! Here’s a handy list with prices and features!

Learning Portuguese isn’t an easy task for most people, but it isn’t rocket science either.

Getting immersed in the language, listening to music, watching movies, and reading books are some of the things you can do to enhance the process of learning Brazilian Portuguese.

But if you need something structured to guide you through the right steps or don’t have the time to attend classes in a school, you’re better off using one of these apps!

Personally, I’m a big fan of language apps because they are great for vocabulary (even if it’s Duolingo). Still, to learn a language beyond the “oi, tudo bem?” you need serious resources.

That’s why I put together this list of the 12 best apps for learning Brazilian Portuguese. I hope you enjoy it! Boa sorte! 😉

TL;DR Quick Summary

Note on Brazilian vs European Portuguese

Many of the language apps I’ll mention below offer both Brazilian and European Portuguese.

While they may sound very different for an untrained ear, they’re actually very similar. The biggest difference is obviously the accent, but most words are the same.

Besides, if you learn Brazilian Portuguese and ever visit beautiful Portugal, they will understand you! No need to worry!

Benefits of Using an App to Learn Brazilian Portuguese (Or Any Language)

Before I dive into the best apps for learning Brazilian Portuguese, let’s talk briefly about why and how an app can actually be helpful to you.

I’m a super fan of these apps for learning a foreign language and even used some of them to learn Dutch and English, so I will name some benefits here.

Firstly, you can use the app anytime, anywhere. There is no need to schedule lessons with a tutor; you can use a Portuguese language learning app whenever you’re ready to study.

Even if you have a busy agenda, it’s crucial to study whenever you can make the time. Using a language learning app allows you to learn as your schedule allows it.

Another great reason to use an app for learning Brazilian Portuguese is the cost. Language learning apps tend to cost significantly less compared to a private tutor or a language learning school.

Your guide to the best apps for learning Brazilian Portuguese

Private language tutors cost anywhere between $25 – $60 an hour, while language learning apps typically cost around $40 a month. You get way more bang for your buck using the learning app!

Also, even if your mother tongue is not English, you can still learn Portuguese because these apps have a wide number of languages available.

Finally, language learning apps are highly personalized. In a group class or tutoring session, you might feel anxious about falling behind the other students.

A one-on-one tutor could solve the problem, but again, personal tutors are more expensive. Using a language learning app will allow you to study confidently at your own pace.

Some apps allow you to choose the type of language content you want to learn, so if you’re explicitly learning Brazilian Portuguese for business purposes, you can select lessons that focus on precisely that.

Without further ado, I will break down the best apps for learning Brazilian Portuguese.

italki

italki app

italki is a platform for connecting language learners and native speakers. Think of it as an online tutoring session.

You can filter teachers based on an hourly rate, native language, and other languages they speak.

Besides, the teachers set their own rate, and many offer discounted trials so you can see if it’s a good fit before paying full price for sessions. I love that!

This is an excellent app for practicing your conversational skills. If you learn best by interacting with native speakers, iTalki is for you!

One downside of Italki is that you can’t pick it up and use it whenever you’d like. You do have to schedule appointments with a tutor in order to use the app.

There are no flashcards, games, or other Portuguese lessons designed for you to learn independently.

Still, I think this is an excellent app (and you also have the site) for developing your conversational skills and getting a feel for what native Brazilians sound like.

  • Best for: people who want to improve their speaking and listening skills and refine their Brazilian accent. It’s also excellent for intermediate speakers to practice the language.

What’s the Cost?

  • $5 – $12 per hour
