The temperature is rising, summer is approaching, and that time of the year when refreshing cocktails are welcome is coming.

Thinking of that, I decided to be creative and make a Brazilian version of the famous Californian sunrise cocktail.

Honestly, the only difference here is the spirit used, cachaça, which is Brazilian.

This cocktail has an easygoing orange-berry flavor that’s hard not to love!

Cachaça drinks

There are many refreshing and easy cachaça cocktails.

For instance, the most famous Brazilian cocktail is also made with cachaça – caipirinha, the national drink!

Still, we have some other cocktails worth trying, such as this coconut cocktail, Brazilian mojito, and this Alexander cocktail.

Perfect occasions to serve this cocktail

This Brazilian sunrise is perfect for entertaining because of its beautiful colors and easygoing flavor.

Beyond that, this cocktail has got lots of fruit juice, making it a great brunch cocktail or even to unwind with after work.

Either way, you can’t go wrong when serving it on a hot summer day, can you?

Tips to make a delicious Brazilian sunrise cocktail

  • The original sunrise cocktail is made with tequila. Still, this Brazilian sunrise is made with cachaça.
  • If you’re making it for the crowds, just mix the orange juice and cachaça in a pitcher beforehand. Pour it into glasses before the party – and again, as refills are needed – and then add the grenadine.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces cachaça
  • 6 ounces orange juice
  • 1 ounce grenadine
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: orange slice for garnishes

How to make a Brazilian sunrise cocktail

Put some ice into a highball glass. Pour in the cachaça and orange juice, and stir them thoroughly.

Now, slowly pour the grenadine over the back of a spoon held over the top of the glass.

This guides the grenadine syrup down the side of the glass. It will sink to the bottom of the glass, creating a lovely red-pinkish layer at the bottom.

Do not stir the drink. Garnish with an orange wheel and cheers!
