Easy and refreshing, this caipirinha coffee is the perfect happy hour starter!
The temperature is rising, and to fully enjoy the shinny sun outside, I decided to try some new variations of our national cocktail, the caipirinha.
I mean, I’ve had it so many times by now that I felt the need to add some other flavors to it.
The sweet and fruity strawberry caipirinha was my first experience, and I’ve gotta tell you, this cachaça drink turned out delicious!
Still, I’m a coffee aficionado. Also, as someone who grew up in a country with a strong coffee culture (Brazilian coffee, anyone?), it was a no-brainer to try my hand at a caipirinha coffee – or at this Brazilian coffee cocktail.
In essence, it’s an excellent drink for the summertime, and it’s very easy to make.
Beyond that, the citrus, fruity lime flavor goes great with the nutty notes from the coffee – I loved it!
It’s the traditional Brazilian cocktail you know, but with a fun twist! I hope you like it too!
Tips for a perfect caipirinha coffee
- To avoid bitterness, remove the pith of the lime.
- When muddling the lime, place them with the pulp up in the cocktail shaker so that the skin won’t get beaten up too badly, making your caipirinha coffee bitter.
Ingredients
- Lime – Pick a fresh lime rather than a pre-bottled one as it might alter the cocktail flavor. Also, limes with soft, thin skin are the juiciest ones!
- Brown sugar – The caramel/toffee flavor pairs great with the nutty notes from the coffee as well as with the grassy taste of cachaça!
- Cachaça – It’s an excellent Brazilian liquor made of the sugarcane juice.
- Coffee – Use good quality coffee to ensure a delicious cocktail. Also, you will want to make it strong because you’ll water it down with ice.
- Coffee beans – These are optional! Use them to garnish your drink.
How to make caipirinha coffee
Brew the coffee using the method you prefer. I used instant espresso powder, and it turned out delicious as it delivers a punch of coffee flavor!
While the coffee is brewing, muddle the lime and sugar in a cocktail shaker.
Add the cachaça, ice cubes, and espresso. Don’t worry if the coffee is hot. After shaking it with ice, it will become cold in no time.
Now, shake it vigorously for approximately 10 to 15 seconds until the drink is cold.
Pour your caipirinha coffee into a highball glass filled with ice. Garnish with coffee beans.
Enjoy your drink!
